Aion Server Merge FAQ
Last Updated: July 12, 2010
When will the server merges happen?
The server merges will happen on Wednesday, July 14 2010.
What servers will be merged?
Will I be able to keep all of my items, equipment and Kinah?
Yes, everything on your characters will transfer with you, including items, equipment and Kinah.
What if I have items in the legion warehouse or on the broker?
Items in the Legion warehouse will be transferred with the Legion Brigade General to his/her new server. Items you have on the broker will be transferred to the broker on your new server.
What will happen to my legion?
Your legion will stay formed through the Legion Brigade General. All characters in the legion will remain so on the new server.
What about my Legion name? Will it be changed if there is a name conflict with another Legion?
Our customer service team will be changing Legion names that have a conflict issue before the server merge. Legions that require a name change will have an abbreviation derived from the name of the original server added to the end of the Legion name, and a Legion Name Change ticket will be issued to the Brigade General of the Legion. A Legion can then either choose to keep that name, or change it with the Legion Name Change ticket.
For example, if the Legion “Adventure Call” on Siel is conflicting with another Legion, we would manually rename your Legion to “Adventure Call SL”.
We want to change our name! When will my Brigade General receive a Legion Name Change ticket?
We will be issuing free Legion Name Change tickets to the Brigade Generals of Legions whose names were changed shortly after the server merge on July 14. Once the tickets are distributed, your Brigade General can use the free Legion Name Change ticket to change the Legion’s name.
What will happen with my characters name after the merge?
Once the merge occurs, a character with a name that is up to 14 letters long will have a two-letter server abbreviation added to the end of the name. For example, “Fergreedy” on Azphel would become “FergreedyAZ” after the merge.
What if my character name is 15 letters long?
If you have a character with a name that is 15 letters long, we will automatically add a one-letter server abbreviation to the end of the name. For example, “Misterhappyface” on Azphel would become “MisterhappyfaceA”.
What if my character name is the maximum length of 16 letters long?
In the rare instance that two characters transferring to a merged server share the same name and it is 16 letters long, one of the characters will be renamed. We understand that this is an inconvenience, and regret the need to change anyone’s character name. We will keep a close eye on the few characters that this name conflict will affect, and can confidently say the percentage of this occurrence will be very low.
Lastly, we’ll be providing all Daevas with a free Character Name Change ticket so that they can later pick a new name.
When can I use the free name change ticket after the merger is complete?
When the merge maintenance is completed on July 14, 2010, you’ll be able to log in and use your free Character Name Change ticket change your name. All uses of that Character Name Change ticket will be on a “first come, first served” basis.
How will I know if one of my friends had to rename their character after the merge?
We currently keep track of character name changes via the
Shadow Court Archives. You will be able to track your friend’s name change here as well.
What happens if two Legions with the same name end up on the same server?
Similar to character name change conflicts, there are specific criteria that define who will get the Legion name in the event of a name conflict. To prevent abuse of this system, we will be releasing details of the Legion name conflict resolution once the merges have begun. If your Legion did not get to keep their original name after the merge, your legion name will be changed to a combination of letters & numbers. Additionally, the Legion Brigade General will receive a free Legion name change coupon inserted into his/her inventory when they log in post merge.
What happens to my Elyos character if I already have an Asmodian on the new server (or vice versa)?
After the merge, we will be having a period of time where both Asmodian and Elyos characters on a single account are playable on the same server. This is being done to ensure all players can find the appropriate homes for their characters. We will be offering free unlimited transfers for characters from July 15th through August 25th and encourage all players to make use of this service to get their characters settled into the right server homes. At a date in the future, we will be turning race restriction back on and you will no longer be able to play both races on one server. At this point, any accounts that have a race conflict on a server will be asked to choose a playable race for that server, and the opposing race (not chosen) will be unplayable until they are transferred to a non-race conflicting server.
Does this mean that I can take advantage of my ability to access both factions during the timeframe that race conflict prevention is disabled?
While the race conflict settings are disabled, our GM’s will be actively monitoring the game for players that are using this advantage to progress faster than normal.
What happens to my account warehouse if I have opposing races merged onto the same server?
If you have both races on a single server after the merge; each race will have separate account warehouses. (Asmodian and Elyos characters never share account warehouses)
What will happen to my fortress?
All Abyss Fortresses’ ownerships will be reset during the merge.
What will happen to my AP points?
Characters will keep their AP points.
What will happen to my abyss rank?
Abyss Ranks will be recalculated 24 hours after the server merges happen, taking into account a character’s current AP on the new, merged server. This means that if you were of Army Governor rank on your old server, but merged with another server whose Army Governor was higher in AP than you, you will no longer be an Army Governor.
What server am I going to?
Please see the list of servers that will be merged above.
I would rather go to a different server. What can I do?
We would encourage you to give your new server some time and explore it to see if it is a good home for you. If it is not, we will be offering free server transfers from July 15th through August 25th. During this period, you are welcome to transfer as many characters as you wish to new server homes.
How often will I be able to transfer my character to a new server?
During the free transfer period, characters you submit for transfer are placed in a collated list, together with transfer requests from other players. The transfers outlined in this list will all be executed at the same time, during weekly maintenance. You will in other words be able to transfer your character up to six times before the 25th of August, when the free transfer period ends.
Who can submit a name change appeal?
For you to be eligible to submit an appeal, the affected character must be level 31 or higher.
How do I submit a name change appeal?
Submit a customer support appeal to reclaim a character name if that character lost its name on the new server by sending an email to support@ncsoft.com. Include:
1. Your current character name (for example, “WilliamTS”)
2. The name you want to reclaim (for example, “William”)
3. Your new server
4. Your previous server
Can I submit an appeal to get a name I did not have on my previous server?
No, you can only reclaim the name your character had before the servers merged.
Is there a latest date to send in my appeal by?
We must have received your appeal by July 28, 2010. Any appeals received after that date will not be accepted, and the request to review them will be automatically closed.
What criteria do you use to determine if my character gets its name back?
First, we ensure that your character is eligible for the name change by verifying that the requested name is the same as the name that your character had before, and that your character was level 31 or higher as of Monday, July 12, 2010.
If the requested character name is not the original name of the character that currently holds it, your character will get the name back. A character that held the name before the server merge always has precedence over a character that didn’t.
If both characters had the same name before the server merge, the highest level character keeps the name on the new server.
If both characters are of the same level, the characters’ dates of creation will be compared instead as the determining factor. The oldest character then keeps the name on the new server.
What about those of us who preordered Aion?
If you preordered Aion, your character’s date of creation should be older than if you didn’t. A character of higher level will still override a preorder, but in cases where two characters are of the same level, the person who preordered has the upper hand.
How quickly will you be able to process my appeal?
We will start looking at incoming appeals on July 14, 2010 (right after the merge). Keep in mind that the cutoff date to submit your appeal is July 28, 2010. We expect a large numbers of appeals, so we request that you have patience with our reply and final resolution. We’ll take care of your case as quickly as possible, but the review of some cases may take several weeks.
What happens to my character’s name if I lose the appeal?
If you lose a name change appeal, your character’s name will be reset to what it was just after the server merge, and your character will receive a free Name Change Ticket.
