Platinum Medals are a reward given for completing certain tasks.  These medals are required for purchasing Abyss Armor from the Primus Pilus and Brigade General's series.  Unlike the other medals, these cannot be purchased, traded, or acquired in bulk as a legion reward for fortress defense.

 

To obtain Platinum Medals, you must complete quests, attend and rank high enough at Balaurea fortress raids and defense, or acquire them through other available means.

 

 

Since the arrival of the Brigade General's set in Empyrean Calling, the need for these medals has increased significantly.  As you can see from the chart below, many medals are needed if you wish to have Eternal PvP gear.

 

Luckily, there are a few ways to obtain these medals each day, though not each way is quick and easy.

An Important Choice / To Face the Future

 

The quests, “Just Between Me and Fasimedes” (Elyos) and “Secrets and Lies” (Asmodian) are quick and easy quests that award you your choice of 10 gold or 3 platinum medals.  To receive this easy quest, Elyos must have Seraphic Vindicator and Asmodians must have Shedim Conquerer on their list of titles.

 

These titles are acquired from the “An Important Choice” (Elyos) and “To Face the Future” campaign quests, which you cannot complete until you have finished all campaigns from the non-Balaurea regions of your faction's land.

Once per day, Elyos can receive the quest, “Banishing the Shadowborn” from Lania or Asmodians can receive the “Snuffing the Sunsuckers” from Vergelan.  By defeating members on the other faction within Silentera Canyon, you will receive a bundle item that when opened will provide you with either a random Abyss Relic or a random Contribution Medal.

Control of the Balaurea Fortresses directly influences the number of Platinum Medals you can receive per day.  Not only does having control of these forts unlock daily quests, Esoterrace, and even the Balaurea Governors, but the act of capturing and defending them can yield you up to 3 Platinum Medals as well.

Repeatable Fortress Quests:

As long as your faction controls it, each Balaurea Fortress has quests that can be completed.  These quests can be done once per day and while they require some effort, you are guaranteed a Platinum Medal for your service.

Platinum Medals can also be obtained through completing quests within some of Aion's instances.  Abyssal Splinter, Chantra Dredgion, and Esoterrace all offer such quests.

Watch for the Thunder Drakie!

While running the Empyrean Crucible, you will participate in various bonus rounds.  When you have finished Stage 4, Administrator Arminos will face you off against some of his drakies. 

 

Be sure to watch out for the Thunder Drakie during this bonus round.  He doesn't always spawn, but if you manage to get one, he will drop a Platinum Medal!

Esoterrace is a 6-man instance that acts as the abyssal treasure room for Balaurea.  It becomes available when your faction controls one of their Balaurea Fortresses.

 

As with previous treasure rooms, you will find treasure chests containing Abyss Relics, Medals, and even some gear within Esoterrace.  Be sure to run it often for a chance at Platinum Medals.

 

Esoterrace also providees players with opportunities to attain Platinum Medals through quests.  Be sure to pick these quests up each time you enter to work towards your reward!

By controlling Divine Fortress in the core of the Abyss, your faction will gain access to Abyssal Splinter, a 12-person instance.  But do not think that your extra numbers will make this easy.  Abyssal Splinter will challenge any group.
 
There are 4 bosses to face within Abyssal Splinter.  For each of these that you defeat, treasure chests will appear that can contain Abyss Relics, Armor, Weapons, and Gold/Platinum Medals.
 
In addition to the treasure chest loot, you can also obtain Platinum Medals from some of the quests for Abyssal Splinter.

Can you take down the Empyrean Agent?

If your faction is able to capture all of the fortresses in Inggison and Gelkmaros, the opposing faction's Governor will appear.  Defeating the Governor will be no easy task, as you will need a large amount of support from your faction to hold off your enemies as you fight.

 

If victorious, you will have a chance to receive Platinum Medals based on your contribution, sort of like a fortress siege.
