Mail is an extremely fast way of sending messages combined with items and/or money to other players (or yourself) within the world of Aion.

There are two types of mail: Regular (which is sent and received via mailboxes scattered through Atreia) and Express (which can arrive to a player, no matter where the player is, via a Zephyr Deliveryman courier).

it also doesn’t matter if the receipient(s) are online or not; the mail will always get to them. You can only send mail to members of your own race, however.

The Mailbox

The Mailbox edit

Mailboxes are generally available in the major towns in Atreia, as well as a few isolated locations, and they all look like this image above. You can access the Mailbox interface by simply right-clicking on it when you’re close enough to it.

Now you’ll see the main Mail window, which will show all of the mail items in your Inbox. If you’re just starting to play Aion, chances are you probably won’t have any. (Though on the example at right, you can see there are 3 messages in your List).

You can keep up to 100 messages in your Mailbox at any one time, and there is no time limit as to how long you can keep a message (even one with money or an item attachment). You can see how many you have by the counter at the lower left corner of the window.

From here, you can double-click on any message to open it, or simply delete it by clicking on the message, then clicking on the Delete button at the bottom of the window.

You can also close this window at any time by clicking on the X at the upper right (or hitting the Esc button).

To write a Message, click on the Write Mail tab.

How to Send Mail

How to Send Mail edit

The Write Mail window will ask you to fill in a few fields:

RecipientThe name of the person you want to send the message to. If the person does not exist or if you made a misspelling you can fill out the rest of the fields but the system won’t let you send the message.

Lets you select the recipient of the message from a list of your Friends.

Title

The title of the message. There’s a 20 character maximum limit.
TextEnter in the full body of your message here.
Attached Kinah

Double-click on the  to enter how much Kinah you’d like to attach to this message. The Mailing Fee is roughly 1% of the amount of attached Kinah for Regular mail, and 5% for Express mail.

Attached ItemYou can drag-and-drop any item from your Inventory into this box. Note the more expensive the item, the higher the Mailing Fee. Rates for Regular mail run around 5-10%, while Express fees can be 50% or more of the item cost. If you don’t want to send the item, just drag it back into your Inventory.
Regular or Express MailChoose whether or you want this message to go Regular or Express. The latter is a lot more expensive but you have the capability of receiving it nearly anywhere in Atreia.
Mailing FeeThe overall fee in Kinah it’ll take to send this message. Default fees for text-only messages are 8 Kinah for Regular and 491 Kinah for Express.

Once you’re finished, you can click on the Send button, then confirm the Mailing Fee to send it on its way. Or you can click on Clear to start all over again.

Receiving Regular Mail

Receiving Regular Mail edit

When you receive a Regular mail message you’ll hear an audible alert that it’s now available.

A letter icon will also appear in your Mini-Map (see the image at right).

A note will show up in the chat window: "A regular mail has arrived."

The icon will appear until all of your unread Regular mail is read.

You can see this message (or any other mail message) by right-clicking on the Mailbox if you happen to be near one.

Receiving Express Mail

Receiving Express Mail edit

When you receive a Express mail message you’ll hear an audible alert that it’s now available.

A package icon will also appear in your Mini-Map (see the image at right).

A note will show up in the chat window: "An express mail has arrived."

The icon will appear until all of your unread Express mail is read.

You can see this message (or any other mail message) by right-clicking on the Mailbox if you happen to be near one.

Alternatively, if you click on the package icon, the Zephyr Deliveryman will appear right in front of you to deliver the message. You can receive Express mail in this fashion nearly anywhere in Atreia.

Just right-click on the Zephyr Deliveryman to open up a special localized Mailbox that will only contain Express mail messages.

Note that if you let the Zephyr Deliveryman linger too long without talking to him, he’ll go away and will refuse to come back for a short period.
