Aion will automatically detect graphics settings for the machine and monitor on which the client is running, however, players can adjust their settings in the Graphics Options tab to increase the game’s performance.

Screen Mode
Players can adjust their screen mode by using the drop down tab pictured below. Continue reading for a description of each Screen Mode and its functions.
Windowed - The Aion client will be displayed in a window, and players can view other applications while running Aion.

Full Screen - The Aion client will stretch the whole screen, and other applications will not be displayed. To minimize the Aion client, hit Alt+Tab, or the Windows key.

**Note: Enabling Full Screen can improve game performance.
Window Full Screen - The Aion client will stretch the whole screen, however, players can still view other applications while running Aion.

Resolution
Resolution refers to the resolution of the screen, and only affects the Aion client in Full Screen and Window Full Screen modes. The available settings for Resolution depend upon the monitor and the graphics card.
**Note: Decreasing the Resolution can improve game performance.
Color
Color adjusts the maximum number of colors displayed on the screen. This setting is only available in Full Screen mode.
**Note: Decreasing the maximum number of Colors displayed can improve game performance.
Brightness
Brightness adjusts the brightness of the screen. This setting is only available in Full Screen mode.
Display FPS
Check this box to display the FPS (Frames Per Second) at which the Aion client is running.
Fixed FPS
This setting will automatically adjust graphics settings to maintain the ideal FPS range.
**Note: Enabling this setting can improve game performance, particularly in lower performance machines.
Character Display
This setting adjusts the level of detail of player characters, or in some cases, hides player characters all together. This setting will not affect player characters in a Group or Alliance with the primary character.
When the ’Auto’ option is enabled, the Aion client will automatically adjust character display based on available memory. Players can use the High, Med, and Low settings to artificially select the level of detail on player characters and their animations.
The screenshot below is an example of how an actual player character would appear as a simplified player character with the setting on "High", versus "Low".

**Note: Decreasing this setting can improve game performance, in particular if there are many player characters appearing on the screen (ie. Fortress Sieges).
Display Effect
This setting adjusts which player characters display spell and ability effects. Adjusting this setting will determine which spell and ability effects appear on screen. Players can adjust the setting to display all effects, no effects, their own effects, or effects from players in their Group or their Alliance.
**Note: Adjusting this setting can improve game performance, in particular if there are many player characters appearing on the screen (ie. Fortress Sieges).
Anti-Aliasing
This setting smooths the outline of objects and textures in the Aion client.
**Note: Increasing this setting can smooth and improve graphics (patterned textures and objects in particular) but, can also decrease game performance.
Bloom Effect
Enables different bloom lighting effects.
**Note: Disabling this setting can improve game performance.
Full Screen Skill Effect
Enables Full Screen effects when using a skill or ability.
**Note: Disabling this setting can improve game performance.
Vertical Sync
Reduces screen distortion when in Full Screen mode.
**Note: Disabling this setting can improve game performance.
Background
This slider determines the level of detail in background objects and textures.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Water Effect
This slider determines the level of detail and reflective distance of water based surfaces.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Shadows
This slider determines the level of detail of player character’s shadows.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Terrain Range
This slider determines the maximum visible range for topographical features.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Object Range
This slider determines the maximum visible range for objects.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Texture Detail
This slider determines the level of detail of textures.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Shader Quality
This slider slider determines the level of detail of player characters and the background.
**Note: Decreasing this slider can improve game performance.
Weather
Enable this setting to display weather effects. If the setting is disabled, weather effects will not be displayed.
**Note: Disabling this setting can improve game performance.
Character LOD (Level Of Detail)
Enabling this setting will decrease the level of detail on distant player characters.
**Note: Enabling this setting can improve game performance.
Glow Effect
Enabling this setting will cause glow effects to appear on player characters and objects.
**Note: Disabling this setting can improve game performance.
