Gathering Guide

Gathering is a crucial part of Aion, as it supports both Crafting and the economies of Atreia. Even humans can gather from lesser nodes with the Collection skill, and following ascension, Daevas can acquire more potent gatherables with the Essencetapping and Aethertapping skills.
The most common gatherables include ores, herbs, fruits, fish, and Aether, however, other kinds of gatherable items also exist.
One of the more unique aspects of Aion is that most of the items gatherable through Essencetapping can be crafted with items gathered through Aethertapping. This adds a different dimension to the standard gather and craft formula.
What can I craft with a Wrud Log? Where’s the best place to gather Mithril Ore? What does a Rubus fruit look like? How do I cure a bad case of Burning Orichalcum? Is it possible to mine for fish? Discover the answers to these questions and more in our Gathering compendium!

Mementos
Found in certain nodes above level 280 Essencetapping, Mementos can be used to craft unique weapons (or a shield). While the weapons themselves are potent for their level, most Daevas desire them because of their unique (and oft times humorous) appearance.
In addition, by speaking to an Item Remodeler, Daevas can remodel their current weapon with the appearance of one of the unique weapons from the Memento series.
Refer to the table below for detailed information on specific Mementos and where to find them.

Recovery Items
When tapping certain high level nodes, it is possible for Daevas to gather rare recovery items.
Refer to the table below for more detailed information.
Petal Dyes
Patient Daevas will be able to gather rare petals from certain flowering plants. These petals can then be used to dye armor in unique colors.
The petals from Elysean and Asmodian flowering plants are similar in color, but there are also subtle differences in their shades and intensities.
Fashionable Daevas who desire to wear the trendiest and most exquisite colors will need to use a Rift to enter the opposing faction’s lands, and collect petals from their flowering plants.
Miscellaneous Items
There are a handful of items with special functions that can also be gathered through Essencetapping. For example, the Seed of Detection allows Daevas to see through basic stealth for a short time.
How to Gather
Gathering nodes can be found all over Atreia, and even in areas with the harshest environmental conditions. To view the name of a node, place the cursor over it; to gather from the node, double-click it. When humans ascend to Daevas, the Collection skill changes to Essencetapping, but all major functions are identical except for the name and the animation.
1. Find a Node.

|
Iron Ore draws near! |
Certain nodes can be difficult to spot because of the surrounding environment, but most nodes pulse, sparkle, or effervesce, and shouldn’t be too hard to see even against a backdrop of similar color.
You can also move the cursor over a node to be sure that it’s there.
2. Double-Click to Start Gathering.
 |
|
Hammer taps Iron Ore! |
In general, it’s possible to gather up to three times from one node, but certain nodes like Rose Quartz and Amethyst can only be gathered once.
If you are attacked or move while gathering from a node, the gathering action is cancelled and the number of times you can gather from that node is reduced.
3. Success or Failure.
 |
|
Iron Ore laughs flippantly. |
Once gathering begins, two bars will appear. The blue bar indicates success, while the red bar indicates failure. If the success bar fills first, the gathering is successful; if the failure bar fills first, the gathering fails.
As you continue to gather, your Essencetapping or Aethertapping skill level will increase, and the success rate will increase as well.
If the gathering is successful, the item gathered will be transferred to your cube.
| Gathering Tips |
- You must have at least one free slot in your cube in order to successfully gather - The maximum level of the Collection skill is 50. Humans will need to ascend to Daevas and acquire the Essencetapping skill to advance their gathering abilities further. - Once you’ve ascended, the nodes from the beginner areas (Poeta and Ishalgen) will no longer be available. But the nodes in the next regions (Verteron and Altgard) will be available. |

Skill Levels
All characters will start with the Collection skill at level 1, and will later gain the Essencetapping and Aethertapping skills. Daevas diligent enough to advance their gathering skills while leveling up their characters will be rewarded with additional EXP and opportunities to make extra Kinah.
Tier | Skill Level | Range |
| Amateur | 1-99 | Gather from nodes between skill levels 1-99 |
| Novice | 100-199 | Gather from nodes between skill levels 1-199 |
Apprentice | 200-299 | Gather from nodes between skill levels 1-299 |
| Journeyman | 300-399 | Gather from nodes between skill levels 1-399 |
| Expert | 400-499 | Gather from nodes between skill levels 1-499 |
Note: If the difference between the character’s Essencetapping or Aethertapping skill level and the target node is more than 40, there is no chance to gain an additional skill point from gathering.
Race | Essencetapping Master | Essencetapping Master’s Location |
| Elyos | | Cornelius |
| | Sanctum |
|
Asmodian | | Latatusk |
| | Pandaemonium |
|
Note: At skill levels 99, 199, and 299, the character will need to pay the Essencetapping or Aethertapping Master to increase their Essencetapping or Aethertapping skill to the next tier. Once completed, the character’s maximum skill level will rise, allowing the character to gather new items and advance their gathering skill.
Gathering Enhancements
Daevas with a true dedication to gathering can find item merchants in the capital cities who sell useful hats. These hats display the location of gatherable items on the mini-map.
Race | Essencetapping Item Merchant | Essencetapping Item Merchant’s Location |
| Elyos | | Sabotes |
| | Sanctum |

| Asmodian | | Relir |

Critical Successes
As with crafting, it is possible to achieve a “critical success” when gathering from certain nodes. The items gathered from a “critical success” are of a higher grade than the standard items.
See below for details on which nodes are eligible for critical successes.
Minerals:
Jewels:
Herbs:
The items gathered through a single critical success will have an additional prefix on their name, such as Fresh, Big, Rich, or Greater. Most of these items are used in crafting Superior and Heroic items.
It’s also possible for a double critical success to occur, in which case the resultant item would have a Pure or Dazzling prefix. Most of these items are used in Expert level crafting.
Rarer still is the triple critical success, in which case a Brilliant prefix would be added to the item gathered. These items are used in crafting some of the most powerful weapons, armor, and accessories in the game.
Huge Gathering Nodes
 |
|
Oh, my, God. Becky, look at that Zeyla. It’s just so big. I can’t
believe it’s just so round, it’s like, out there, I mean—gross! |
Daevas brave enough to delve into the more dangerous areas of Atreia might be lucky enough to stumble upon a huge node.
These are always Essencetapping nodes, but can be tapped up to 10 times (as opposed to the standard 1-3). While extremely rare, tapping these huge nodes can be rather lucrative.
